Frequently Asked Questions

What is the relationship between El Dorado Community Foundation and Making A Difference?

The Community Foundation is our partner. They furnish our administration, accounting, and reporting services. This allows us to focus on our primary obligation of working with people and organizations in need.

Yes, as a 501 C 3 charity, personal , business, and corporate donations are generally tax deductible as are appreciated securities, real estate, and some types of personal property.

The Foundation was initiated by Ken and Vicki Calhoon, long-time residents of El Dorado County. Ken’s background has been real estate and finance, and Vicki is a local artist. They have both been actively involved in many civic and charitable organizations. In addition, the Foundation has directors serving as advisors who live and work in our local communities.

A BIG difference in our foundation and other charities is our transparency. We share with our donors where and how their gifting has made a difference. The paid college tuition for a deserving student, food baskets for the hungry and paid rent for a family facing eviction. Our work is shared through social media and community workshops.

Yes, everyone with our foundation is a volunteer. There is a need for more.
