The Green Valley Community Church does more than preach the gospel about helping those in need, they are actively engaged in the process.
For over 20 years, the Auto Repair Ministry at Green Valley Community Church has provided various auto repairs for low-income single parents, seniors, and the unhoused of El Dorado County. The mechanics thoroughly inspect and perform the repairs needed on these cars so they are in safe working condition and can be turned over to a deserving single parent or senior.
While the repair work is donated, required auto parts are not. Often those asking for assistance do not have the financial ability to pay for parts. That’s when Dan Diggins, one of the organizers of the Auto Ministry, reached out for help.
Ken Calhoon, CEO of Making a Difference Foundation, and his wife Vicki visited the Auto Ministry with a $2,500 donation. “It was amazing to see these talented mechanics donating their time so that others could have reliable transportation,” said Ken.
The Auto Ministry could do more if they had more. Although the mechanic’s time is donated, the cost of auto parts limits the number of vehicles the Auto Ministry can repair for their owners.
