Please Don’t Disconnect My Phone

Most of our requests for donations would be considered sizeable. They range from $2,500 to $10,000. That’s why I was surprised when The Center in Placerville called and asked us to help one of their clients with a $300 delinquent phone bill from Verizon. Their client, Sara, had fled from her abusive husband and had sought refuge along with her three children at the Center’s women shelter. If Sara didn’t have a phone, she didn’t have a job.

There were other sources of funding, but Verizon needed to be paid immediately, or Sara’s cell phone service would be disconnected.

Fortunately, our foundation is prepared for such emergencies. We not only paid the past due invoice we paid two months forward.

The first call Sara made on her cell phone was to our foundation thanking us for the helping hand. She promised that one day she would have an opportunity to help someone else like we helped her.

Often, helping those in need isn’t measured in money alone. Knowing that people care enables the healing process.
